How to compare insurance quotes without fooling yourself
The lowest premium rarely means the best protection. An honest method: matching limits, deductibles, exclusions and claims service. A table you can apply to MTPL, CASCO and travel.
Comparing “the banner price” works for coffee, not for a contract that must work after a crash. To avoid buying the appearance of a saving, bring quotes to the same units.
Subject first, price second
Do not compare MTPL with CASCO or with travel. Even inside one product, Full and Light are different things. Lock the contract type, term, territory and object (car / person / liability).
Four columns that are enough
- payout limit for each risk
- deductible and what it applies to
- key exclusions
- how repair or treatment is organised
If one quote includes a tow and the other does not, the cheaper one can become expensive on the first roadside event. Put service in the table as its own row, not “in your head”.
Claims reputation
Payout speed is not in the marketing block. Read reviews of actual claims, not of “a convenient website”. Ask whether there is an app for photos, whether a specific workshop is required, how many days for a reply.
For corporate and loan contracts add the beneficiary: a bank may reject a policy that looked attractive to you.
The one-change rule
Change only one parameter at a time: deductible, term or a sport add-on. Otherwise you will not know what you paid for. Once the table is full, the price finally means something.
